The Hemostasis Thrombosis Laboratory (HTL) is a section within the Cancer and Blood Diseases Institute Clinical Laboratories at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital. The lab is integrated into a comprehensive Hematology Program and offers a wide array of testing for hematologic and platelet disorders.  

The HTL is currently seeking a qualified applicant to serve as a Lab Technical Specialist. The ideal qualified individual should have demonstrated expertise in coagulation testing with experience in the technical oversight of lab operations preferred.  

The position involves overseeing the performance of testing within the HTL. This testing includes assays for von Willebrand Disease, platelet function disorders, anti-phospholipid antibody detection, anticoagulant monitoring and more. The technical specialist role includes supervision of all aspects of testing including but not limited to bench performance of testing, interpreting data, and reporting. Responsibilities include validation and introduction of new assays, trouble-shooting assay/instrument performance, selection of new equipment and managing projects. In addition, the role involves training of staff and maintenance of compliance/accreditation functions within the lab.  

The individual must have excellent communication skills, work well in a team setting, and be comfortable leading projects. The individual should have good multi-tasking abilities and an interest in the teaching and education of lab staff as well as clinical fellows, care providers, and colleagues. The Lab Technical Specialist will work closely with the CBDI Laboratory Operations Director and the HTL Medical Directors.  

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

Required:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Clinical Laboratory Science or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 4 years of high-complexity clinical laboratory experience

Preferred:

  • Certified by national certifying agency
  • Management/leadership experience
